I appreciate your president having made me an honorary visiting professor, and I will assure you that my first lecture will be very brief.
I am delighted to be here and I'm particularly delighted to be here on this occasion.
We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a state noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds.
Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this Nation's own scientific manpower is doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension.
No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have come, but condense, if you will, the 50,000 years of man's recorded history in a time span of but a half-century. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 40 years, except at the end of them advanced man had learned to use the skins of animals to cover them. Then about 10 years ago, under this standard, man emerged from his caves to construct other kinds of shelter. Only five years ago man learned to write and use a cart with wheels. Christianity began less than two years ago. The printing press came this year, and then less than two months ago, during this whole 50-year span of human history, the steam engine provided a new source of power. Newton explored the meaning of gravity. Last month electric lights and telephones and automobiles and airplanes became available. Only last week did we develop penicillin and television and nuclear power, and now if America's new spacecraft succeeds in reaching Venus, we will have literally reached the stars before midnight tonight.
This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers. Surely the opening vistas of space promise high costs and hardships, as well as high reward.
So it is not surprising that some would have us stay where we are a little longer to rest, to wait. But this city of Houston, this state of Texas, this country of the United States was not built by those who waited and rested and wished to look behind them. This country was conquered by those who moved forward--and so will space.
William Bradford, speaking in 1630 of the founding of the Plymouth Bay Colony, said that all great and honorable actions are accompanied with great difficulties, and both must be enterprised and overcome with answerable courage.
If this capsule history of our progress teaches us anything, it is that man, in his quest for knowledge and progress, is determined and cannot be deterred. The exploration of space will go ahead, whether we join in it or not, and it is one of the great adventures of all time, and no nation which expects to be the leader of other nations can expect to stay behind in this race for space.
Those who came before us made certain that this country rode the first waves of the industrial revolution, the first waves of modern invention, and the first wave of nuclear power, and this generation does not intend to founder in the backwash of the coming age of space. We mean to be a part of it--we mean to lead it. For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding.

I am here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, from kindergarten through 12th grade. And I am just so glad that all could join us today. And I want to thank Wakefield for being such an outstanding host. Give yourselves a big round of applause. (Applause.)I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it’s your first day in a new school, so it’s understandable if you’re a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now -- (applause) -- with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you’re in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer and you could’ve stayed in bed just a little bit longer this morning.I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived overseas. I lived in Indonesia for a few years. And my mother, she didn’t have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school, but she thought it was important for me to keep up with an American education. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday. But because she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the , as you might imagine, I wasn’t too happy about getting up that early. And a lot of times, I’d fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I’d complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and she’d say, “This is no picnic for me either, buster.” (Laughter.)So I know that some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I’m here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I’m here because I want to talk with you about your education and what’s expected of all of you in this new school at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, the best schools in the world -- and none of it will make a difference, none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities, unless you show up to those schools, unless you pay attention to those teachers, unless you listen to your parents and grandparents and other adults and put in the hard work it takes to succeed. That’s what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education.I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself. Every single one of you has something that you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.

Today, we are gathered here to hold the 20xx primary school graduation ceremony. On behalf of all the teachers of the school, I congratulate all the students who have completed six years of primary school, and I pay great respect to the graduating teachers who dedicate their blood and wisdom to the healthy growth of their classmates.
Six years of learning time is short, beautiful and unforgettable. Remember? When you first entered the campus in the first grade, you cried and went home. Did your mother cry with you? Remember? 晚进行的，是中英文演讲比赛。
最终我们小组拿到中等的名次，结果不是重要的，重要的是过程，我还记得那天下午大家一起排练讨论得很开心，不同的想法合起来我们的演讲就包含了不用的元素，这些都是我之前完全没预想到的。组长安排的更是合理，每个人都得到充分的发挥。
演员组成员搞怪的表演彻底点燃了观众的热情，这对我们演讲组的成员起到了很大的支持。
ppt制作组的成员在幕后的辛勤劳动，没有他们没有我们今晚条理工整的ppt。
最后还有演讲组的两位搭档，我们反复商量排练了n次，内容不断地加加减减，期间大家都付出了很多的精力和时间，纵使最后有一点点的缺憾，但努力过，我们觉得这就足够了。
在这里很想对大家说声谢谢，虽然你们未必看得到，但真的，过了这次活动我才发现我们小组有这么多可爱的人，今天晚上的presentation真的很成功。谢谢!谢谢!
至于我，纵然大二微生物的那次演讲惨不忍睹，但这次我还是选择了上台演讲，很大程度上也多得组员们的推举，谢谢你们的信任，让我今晚有迈出了我人生的新一步。
这次上台是为挑战一下自己的comfort zone，我想试一下到底我可以到达怎样的程度。
做得好的部分：
1.结果相比上次好了一点，上台的时候我只有小小的一点紧张，原因是做好了较充足的准备，稿子基本上能够背出来，然后在上台之前特意放松了一下自己的心情，更重要的，我想是来自身边组员的支持，有他们，我知道我不用孤军作战，只需要把自己的部分做好就可以了。
2.在演讲的时候我刻意保持自己的站姿，避免歪歪斜斜的。
3.声音还算清晰稳定，据骷髅坚反映说有气场!这是出于不断练习所产生的一点点自信。
不足之处：
1.英文并不能做到脱口而出，个别的词语还是会卡壳，相比伦姐的英语，只能自行惭愧。
2.看观众眼神不够自然，自始至终都忘了看坐第一排的老师。
3.临场应变能力极为欠缺，所幸后来还是把话给说回来了。

There are many difference between China and America such as in the field of geography ,culture, language ,politics ,economy and education with the development of science and technology word get even more smaller ,the communication between them is more frequent . Our country,
China absorbs the essence and doesn’t eliminate the bad thing . Because a proverb ever since said when the fresh air come in ,the flies will also accompany it .
At times we may not determine our countries’ geography and culture . But the system of politics economy , especially family education can be decided by the individuals . THIS AFTERNOON, my office sent out over 34,000 email notifications to high school seniors who applied Regular Decision and were waiting with anticipation to learn whether they would be invited to spend the next four years at Stanford.

Even though I have been in the admission field for over 30 years, I still feel quite a bit of pain at the end of this week (as I do each year) about the many exceptional youths who were not offered a space in the class. I also expect that in the following weeks I will hear from parents who are understandably distraught that their sons and daughters with top high school class rankings, very high SAT scores and some truly impressive extracurricular accomplishments were denied entry.

While the number admitted into the undergraduate class has remained unchanged for years, Stanford, like many of its peer schools, has had a record number of total applicants – more than 42,000. We could, for instance, have filled incoming classes four or five times over with applicants who achieved grade point averages of 4.0 or greater.

My college lifeI am proud of being a college student. I like my college life as it is so wonderful time in my youth. As being born in small village of the remote countryside, I didn't have a good education environment. However, I set a goal and felt confident to be a college student. After hard study, I passed the entrance examination of national college by excellent achievement. All people were proud of me, as I was the first college student in my village. I was farewell warmly by them when I came to school. I was warmly welcome by school, too.
After then, I've felt my study is not only for myself but also for the honor of my village neighborhood and our college life is wonderful. All life in school are fresh. New teachers, new classmates and fresh friends are around me. I've felt their friendship, wide knowledge and opening mind. The grand library, school buildings and wide playground are very attracting to me. I am very eager to learn much knowledge quickly. In high school, I was ever called as a runner before time.
Now,I know I am behind time so much in fact. I hope to catch up with the time by my hard studying. Every day, you can see me get up early, doing exercise hard and go to school the first one. At night, I am the one who leaves away the library.
